Weather safety guidance for bouncy castle hire

Weather plays an important role in whether a bouncy castle can be used safely outdoors. At Marshall’s Castles, safety is always the first priority. We follow strict industry guidelines for wind and weather conditions, and we monitor forecasts closely to make sure every hire meets the correct safety standards. This page explains everything you need to know about wind speed limits, rain, and what happens if the weather changes before your event.

Maximum safe wind speed for outdoor use

The highest safe wind speed for using a bouncy castle outdoors is 24 mph (38 kph). This is known as a Fresh Breeze and is classed as Force 5 on the Beaufort scale. This limit includes wind gusts, not just steady wind. If wind speeds reach this level, users must leave the inflatable immediately and the inflatable must be deflated until the wind drops to a safe level.

We check the forecast every day and assess the conditions carefully. If we believe the wind will be too strong to set up safely outdoors, we will contact you before your hire. Safety always comes first, and we cannot risk inflatables becoming unstable or unsafe in high winds.

Light rain and general weather

Our inflatables can be used in light rain, and many have built-in rain covers to help protect users. Light showers usually do not affect safety and the inflatable can continue to be used. However, the inflatable must not be used if surfaces become slippery or if the rain is heavy enough to affect visibility or stability.

For safety reasons, we do not allow outdoor hire during heavy rain or when winds are close to or above the 24 mph limit. Wet surfaces, strong gusts and unstable ground can all cause hazards, so we follow strict safety checks to keep all guests protected.

If the weather forecast looks poor

If adverse weather is forecast, we will contact you to discuss your options. These usually include:

  • Moving the inflatable indoors if you have a suitable hall or venue
  • Switching to an indoor-friendly inflatable from our Indoor Low Height Inflatables
  • Rearranging your booking for another date
  • Receiving a refund if your event cannot go ahead

We understand how important your event is, so we always try to find a solution that works for you while still keeping everything safe.

Indoor alternatives for bad weather

Indoor venues remove weather concerns completely. Many customers choose to move their hire indoors when wind or rain becomes a risk. We provide a range of inflatables that fit comfortably in halls and community centres, including Bouncy Castles and Just For Tots Under 6's options. Indoor setups are ideal for winter events, school parties and celebrations where the weather cannot be relied upon.

Why weather rules matter

Strong wind can cause inflatables to move or lift, even when anchored properly, and slippery surfaces can lead to falls. These risks increase quickly in poor weather, which is why the rules are clear on maximum wind speeds and safe operating conditions. Our team follow national guidelines so you can be confident that your hire is safe and compliant.

Reliable communication and clear support

We stay in contact with you in the run-up to your hire and keep you informed if there are any weather concerns. If conditions change at the last minute, we will talk through the options with you and support you as best we can. Our aim is always to keep your event running safely and smoothly.

With proper planning, clear guidance and indoor alternatives available, your event can still go ahead safely even if the weather is unpredictable.
