Supervising a Bouncy Castle: What You Need to Do

Supervising an inflatable correctly is one of the most important parts of a safe and enjoyable event. At Marshall’s Castles, we provide high quality equipment that is regularly tested, maintained and cleaned, and we also give our customers clear guidance on how to watch over their hire safely. Supervision ensures that everyone can enjoy inflatables such as our Bouncy Castles or themed items like the Bug Bounce Bouncy Castle without unnecessary risks.

Your role as the supervisor

Every bouncy castle hire must have a responsible adult overseeing the inflatable at all times. This person should remain close enough to see the entry point and the full bounce area. They must make sure the inflatable is used sensibly, that children are behaving safely and that the inflatable is not overcrowded. It is important to keep footwear, food, drinks and sharp objects away from the equipment at all times.

Supervisors must also monitor the weather closely. If the wind increases or heavy rain begins, the inflatable must not continue to be used. Safety rules apply to all inflatables, including items in our Inflatable Games range such as the Ball Blast Shootout and our activity units like the Energy Two Part Obstacle Course.

Managing users on the inflatable

Keeping similar age groups together helps prevent collisions. Young children should not share the inflatable with much older children. Supervisors must also watch the entrance to ensure children enter safely one at a time. The inflatable should never be used by too many people at once, which is especially important on popular units such as the Enchanted Forest Bouncy Castle & Slide Combo or larger pieces from our Assault Courses selection.

A supervisor should check that users do not climb the walls, push others or attempt flips. These behaviours can cause injuries and damage the inflatable. If the inflatable has a slide, such as the Party Slide Around Bouncy Castle Combo, the slide must be used feet first.

Checking the area around the inflatable

The space around the inflatable must remain clear. Supervisors should make sure that all bags, chairs, toys and other objects stay well away from the bounce area. Safety mats must remain in place and the blower at the back of the inflatable must not be touched or obstructed. This applies to all items, including indoor-friendly products such as those in our Indoor Low Height Inflatables range.

Inspect the ground regularly. There should be no dog mess, mud, loose stones or sharp items that could cause harm or damage the inflatable. Clear ground helps keep users safe and supports the correct anchoring of equipment, especially on grass.
