Power requirements and extension lead guidance for bouncy castle hire
Most inflatables need a constant supply of electricity to keep them running safely, so understanding the power requirements before your event is very important. At Marshall’s Castles, we make this part simple by providing clear guidance and ensuring all equipment is fully tested and safe to use. Whether you are setting up in a garden, a hall or a large outdoor venue, this page explains everything you need to know about power, extension leads and generators.
What power supply you need
Each inflatable needs one standard household plug socket. This socket must be within a sensible distance of the setup area to allow safe cable routing. Most customers use an outdoor socket, a garage socket or a mains point inside the property. If you are unsure whether your nearest socket is close enough, you can ask our team when booking and we will guide you through the options.
Extension lead safety
We take an extension lead to every hire, and our extension leads are regularly PAT tested along with all other electrical equipment. This means they meet UK safety standards and are suitable for professional use. However, extension leads must always be used safely. They cannot cross public roads, pavements or access routes for vehicles. They also must not be run through areas where people may trip or where the cable could be damaged.
When you need a generator
If your bouncy castle is being set up far away from the nearest power source, you will need a suitable generator. Extension leads cannot be used over long distances and must not cross roads or large open access areas, so generators are the safest and most practical choice for remote fields, parks and wide outdoor spaces. If you need one, we can help advise on the correct type and size to ensure your inflatable runs smoothly all day.
PAT testing and safety checks
All electrical components, including blowers and extension leads, are PAT tested annually to ensure they are safe and fully compliant with UK regulations. This is an important part of our safety process, and we keep all documentation up to date for schools, councils and organisations that may need it. We also inspect and test equipment during the season to make sure everything works correctly before it reaches your event.
Indoor power guidance
If you are hiring for a hall or community centre, power is usually straightforward. Most halls provide several sockets around the walls, allowing us to position the inflatable safely. For indoor events we also check cable placement carefully to avoid trip hazards and ensure clear walkways for staff, guests and children.
Outdoor power guidance
For gardens and outdoor spaces, please make sure the socket you plan to use is working and that we have clear access to it. If it is indoors, keep the window or door open during the event to allow the cable to pass through without damage. We always route cables safely along edges and secure them where needed to avoid hazards.
Power advice for large events
Big events such as school fairs, community days and corporate functions often need several inflatables running at once. In these cases, you may need multiple sockets or more than one generator. We can advise you during booking and help you plan a safe and efficient layout. For events with lots of footfall, safe cable management is especially important, and our team will take care of this during setup.
Reliable service across our delivery areas
We deliver and set up across Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Grantham, Hucknall, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray and Rotherham. Our team make sure your inflatable is powered safely and professionally wherever your event takes place.
